Illustrated Books: Creating a Children’s Book as a Private Commission

Illustrated Book: “The Magic Box”

For this beautiful private commission, the special occasion was the birthday of Alexandra’s partner, made even more special as it coincided with the birth of their first child.
Alexandra contacted me to create this children’s book, providing a wonderful text that recalls the key moments of her partner’s life and their love story, up to the birth of their little one. The story is clearly fictionalized but features real-life characters: the mother, the father, the grandmother, the family dog…

A fun detail: her partner is a huge fan of the world of Zelda, so in the book we dressed him up as Link 🙂

These commissions always touch me, because they allow me to become part of the client’s life, their emotions (like the birth of their first child), and a piece of their story. A wonderful relationship of trust is always formed, and I feel a bit of melancholy when delivering the final book. But I’m happy to have contributed to creating such a special object that will remain in Alexandra’s and her family’s hearts for a long time.

As with this book, having no publishing house behind it and being custom-made for the client, I also handled the layout, cover design, and printing, delivering a complete, finished product.
